(Special Thanks to Coach Jason Enrique and the rest of the Titan Crossfit family for letting me test out their beautiful new facility and putting me through a tough workout)
Crossfit workouts have gained tremendous popularity in the last year or so, despite being around for some time. I’ve seen the Crossfit games on ESPN, watched Crossfit videos on youtube, and know quite a few coaches and gym-goers. I’ve been wanting to take some classes for a while now, but was finally given the opportunity this weekend to check it out literally hands on.
When I transformed my body over a year ago, part of it had to do with the change in my workout routine. I am a HUGE proponent of metabolic circuits and 90% of my program design for both myself and clients deals with these types of workouts. Crossfit routines are called “Met-Cons” which is short for Metabolic Conditioning. The principles behind it in short are combining interval training with strength resistance exercises. The reason why these types of workouts are so effective (without going into scientific detail) are that they tap into certain energy stores/systems of the body and aim to increase endurance, promote lean muscle development, and TORCH body fat.
It was only a level 1 Class, but it’s all scale-able in terms of being able to modify exercises to make them harder or easier depending on your fitness level. This was our Workout of the Day aka “W.O.D.”
3 rounds for time
- 15 Box Jumps
- 15 GHD Situps or 15 Ab Pad Butterfly Crunches
- 15 Overhead Plate Presses
- 15 Wall Balls
- 15 Kettle Bell Swings
So we were tasked with doing all of these exercises in a row, and going through the whole cycle of exercises once equals 1 round. I definitely pushed myself as hard as I could, and aimed for doing all the exercises unbroken (without stopping). Definitely a great workout which ended up in a soaked shirt and HEAVY breathing…gasping lol. I’m a huge fan, and am hoping to get some more classes in soon.
**Side Note: Guess who finished first =P **
